Bakiga Nation turns ten. Roke Telkom used the milestone to launch its eSIM to festivalgoers

Roke Telkom was among the sponsors of this year's Bakiga Nation Rukundo Egumeho festival, held Sunday at Millennium Grounds in Lugogo, marking the tenth anniversary of the event celebrating Bakiga cultural heritage.
The festival drew thousands of attendees for music, dance, storytelling, food, and cultural exhibitions organized around Kigezi traditions. Organizers said the event has grown over the past decade from a community gathering into one of Uganda's larger cultural festivals, drawing attendees from across the country and the diaspora.
As a festival partner, Roke Telkom set up a showcase for two of its connectivity products: RokeSpot, a portable Wi-Fi device, and the Roke Travel eSIM, which allows users to connect in multiple countries without switching physical SIM cards. Attendees at the festival were able to try both products on site.
A Roke Telkom spokesperson said the company's involvement in the festival reflects a broader strategy of connecting with communities beyond its core telecom business. "At Roke Telkom, we believe that true connectivity goes beyond broadband," the spokesperson said. "It is about bringing people together, preserving the stories that define us and creating experiences that enrich people's lives."
Roke Telkom said it plans to continue sponsoring cultural events in Uganda. The company has framed such partnerships as part of a wider trend of technology companies investing in the country's cultural and creative sectors, though it did not provide data on the scale or economic impact of that investment.
