KCB KOBs win Kyabazinga 7s title

KCB KOBs won the Kyabazinga 7s on Sunday, beating Rams RFC 22-19 in the final at Bugembe Stadium to claim their first tournament title of the 2026 Uganda Rugby 7s Series.
The team went unbeaten through the two-day tournament, scoring 127 points and conceding 72 across six matches.

In pool play on Saturday, KCB KOBs beat Rams RFC 17-10, Mbale Elephants 31-21, and Plascon Mongers 19-10 to top their group. On Sunday, they defeated Plascon Mongers 26-7 in the quarterfinal and Stanbic Black Pirates 12-5 in the semifinal, setting up a rematch with Rams RFC in the final.
Rams led 12-5 at halftime after a fast start, but KCB KOBs came back in the second half. Tries from Brian Wandera, Shafik Okole, Josiah Ssempeke and Rasul Abiriga put them ahead, and they held off a late Rams surge to close out the win.
The victory moves KCB KOBs up from fourth place in the series standings, with their points total rising from 60 to 82 ahead of the final stop.
"It feels great to win the Kyabazinga 7s after having near misses in the previous stops," said KOBs captain Josiah Ssempeke. "We'll maintain the same focus going into the last stop and hope for the best."
KCB KOBs next play at the Kabaka Coronation 7s, the final stop of the Uganda Rugby 7s Series, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Mutesa II Royal Stadium in Wankulukuku.
