RUBiS Uganda opens 10 stations, launches untested fuel additive

RUBiS Energy Uganda has opened 10 new service stations and introduced a fuel additive it says improves engine performance, part of a broader retail push that includes new lubricant bays, more convenience stores and a staff training centre.
The company, a subsidiary of RUBiS Energy Kenya, now operates more than 75 stations across Uganda. The new outlets are located in Nabbingo, Naluvule, Nakirebe, Lyantonde, Busabala, Kulambiro, Kasangati, Kisoga, Namusera and along the Masaka Bypass.
The centrepiece of the announcement is UltraTec, a fuel additive RUBiS is marketing under the tagline "Choose Better." The company says it cleans engine deposits, improves mileage and reduces emissions. Those are standard claims made across the fuel additive category, and RUBiS did not release independent testing data or third party verification to back them; the figures cited so far come solely from the company itself.
Alongside the fuel launch, RUBiS has set up 18 Castrol branded lubricant bays at its stations, including service points aimed specifically at boda boda riders needing oil changes, a segment the company called central to Uganda's transport and commercial activity. It has also expanded its RUBiS Enjoy convenience store chain to 30 outlets, with five more under construction, and upgraded station facilities including customer toilets.
On the workforce side, RUBiS opened a Training Excellence Centre at its Nabbingo station, which it says will standardise staff training in customer service, safety and operations through simulations and hands on learning.
Managing Director William Fillet framed the investments as building "a stronger RUBiS brand across Uganda," while France's ambassador to Uganda, Virginie Leroy, attended the launch event as guest of honour and praised the company's expansion as an example of French private investment in the country, along with its solarisation projects.
RUBiS entered the Ugandan market through its 2019 acquisition of Kobil and Delta, and has since built out a national retail network spanning fuel, LPG, lubricants and commercial and industrial supply. The company is listed on the Paris Stock Exchange and operates in more than 40 countries across Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.
The announcement, released through RUBiS's own communications channels, reads largely as a corporate update marking a growth milestone rather than a response to any market pressure or competitive shift; there is no independent data yet on how the new UltraTec fuel performs against rivals such as Shell V Power or Total's equivalent additive lines, nor on how the expansion affects fuel pricing for consumers.
