Vinka owns Lugogo as thousands turn up for her first ever solo concert
Kampala got a taste of full blown pop star energy on Friday night as Vinka took over Lugogo Cricket Oval for her first solo concert, pulling in thousands of fans from across the city for a night that quickly turned into one long, loud singalong.
The Swangz Avenue star, who has spent years building a name as one of Uganda's most consistent hitmakers, finally got her own stage, and she used it well. From the moment she walked out to a screaming crowd, it was clear the night belonged to her. She moved through outfit changes almost as fast as she moved through her catalogue, each look louder and more daring than the last, giving the crowd as much to look at as to dance to.
Musically, she did not hold back. "Love Panic" got an early crowd reaction, "Chips Na Ketchup" turned into a full blown chant with fans taking over the chorus, and by the time she got to "All Over You," "Lalala" and "Gunkwase," the venue felt less like a concert and more like one massive, coordinated party.
What stood out most was how the crowd carried its own weight. Fans sang, danced and filled in every gap, proving that Vinka's music has quietly built a fan base that knows every word. Her stage presence and comfort in front of a big crowd also showed a performer who has clearly been preparing for a night like this.
The concert was sponsored by Bell Lager and Uganda Waragi, both of which leaned into the night's energy. Bell Brand Manager Lillian Kansiime said the connection between Vinka and her audience was obvious throughout the show, while Uganda Waragi Brand Manager Roy Tumwizere noted that the crowd's excitement was building even before Vinka stepped on stage.
Beyond the performance, the night doubled as a fashion moment. Attendees showed up in bold colours, metallic fabrics and statement streetwear, turning the venue into as much a style showcase as a concert ground. The crowd itself spanned generations, from Gen Z fans who grew up on her music to older listeners who have followed her career from the start.
By the time the night wound down, one thing was clear. Vinka's first solo concert did not just meet expectations, it raised the bar for what a homegrown pop show in Kampala can look like.
