MJA wins government backing for skills and sports program

Timothy Ssejjoba, Commissioner for University Education and Training at the Ministry of Education and Sports, pledged continued government support for Makindye Junior Academy's skilling and sports initiatives while serving as Chief Guest at the school's Mega Sports Day & Talent Boost Celebration, held at the school along Salaama Muyonyo Road.
The event, held under the theme "Stronger Together: Different Colours, Same Goal," brought together an estimated 2,000 learners, parents, teachers and members of the wider MJA community for a day of sports, talent displays and competition.
Commissioner commends holistic approach
Addressing the gathering, Ssejjoba commended Makindye Junior Academy for combining education, skilling and sports in one program, saying the approach aligns with the Ministry of Education and Sports' focus on equipping learners with practical, marketable skills.
Ssejjoba said promoting quality education, skilling and physical education for all is a top priority for the Ministry of Education, and that he was humbled and gratified to see Makindye Junior Academy championing this cause for the past 24 years, calling the school's record "extremely credible" and urging it to keep up the work.
He pledged his continued support, guidance and collaboration to strengthen the school's programs going forward.
Winners recognised with livestock, medals and gifts
The Commissioner, on behalf of the school, presided over the recognition of top performers. Blue House emerged winners and were awarded a bull, along with numerous other prizes, while Yellow House placed second and received a goat, along with medals.
Part of a broader skilling initiative
The Mega Sports Day forms part of the MJA Skilling Program, an annual three-month initiative that equips learners, youth and mothers with practical skills for self-reliance and entrepreneurship. Areas covered include:

Football, Swimming, Basketball and Netball
School officials say the program reflects Makindye Junior Academy's commitment to developing learners' "head, heart and hand" (knowledge, character and practical skills) alongside academics.
"Every child has a talent, every young person deserves a skill, and every learner should have an opportunity to discover their potential," the school said in a statement, describing the event as a celebration of its commitment to "Education, Skilling and Sports for All."
