Okwi's impressive form with Kigali, where he was the top scorer with nine league goals, likely influenced the decision.
Although he narrowly missed the Golden Boot award, his performance earned him a nomination for the league's Best Player of the Season.
Okwi, a former Uganda Cranes captain, retired from international football in March 2025 but remains a potent force at the club level.
